Monsta feat Young Dro "Spazzin"

Straight from Monsta himself: Born and raised in Detroit. I’ve been loving music ever since I can remember. I remember listening to Busta Rhymes and Mystikal and reciting their verses word for word and thinking “I can do that!” Busta and Mystikal were huge influences in the way that I honed my musical style, I was also heavily influenced by Master P and the innovation he brought to the way music was marketed. I draw inspiration from guys like Ice Cube, 50 Cent as well just based on how they were able to take the music and expand on it in so many ways that have influenced the culture. Ever since then I’ve had a passion for the rap game. My sound is definitely hip hop but I pride myself on not sounding like anyone else. I’ve been inspired by a lot of artists; from a lot of genres and eras. I believe that as my music is heard a reflection of everything will be present.

My biggest accomplishment outside of being a father would have to be my single Spazzin which feature Young Dro produced by AK for K & Square Music. Also, my other project “Eat Off The Ground” with Project Pat is yet another piece or work I’m extremely proud of. However, I believe this is my best work to date. My mixtape “Pressure” hosted by Fat Joe will be released around the new year. The features are ridiculous; Young Dro, Payroll Giovanni and Drey Skonie.

Courtney Bell – Poverty Stricken

Published

on

It’s been less than 48 hours since the release, yet its impact feels impending. I’m gonna need to let the music soak in over the next few weeks, but first impressions – “Poverty Stricken” is an artist defining album. Courtney Bell has been verbally supplying his message for some time now, and it all comes together for this fantastic journey into his mind & thoughts. Articulate in the way Courtney Bell is able to paint pictures well driving you forward into deep listening to decipher what he is truly saying here. It’s deep, backed with powerful production including a track I was glad to see make it on as a bonus. “PSA” featuring production from Grammy award-winning producer !llmind finishes the fifteen song album off perfectly.

Long before you reach track fifteen though you travel a riveting path amongst the Detroit native’s metaphors & vivid verses. From the album artwork style lyric video above for the opening “GB4“, the structured storytelling of “1994/Dealer“, to other standouts such as “Garment” feat. Reason & “25 Hours” where we hear him speak on the risks and struggles of pursuing dreams. Off first impressions, I feel this will be in heavy rotation for some time to come indeed & that this album will unravel exciting new chapters for the artist.

Take in the entire album for yourself and enjoy the newest music from Courtney Bell.

Lazarus – Trap City

Published

2020 has been a tumultuous year packed full of new struggles, burdens, and sacrifices. As we encounter lockdowns, masks, and a lack of being able to go out and enjoy the very things we enjoy such as concerts or sporting events, one artist has arrived with a record that serves as a fitting anthem for these darker times. Detroit’s own doctor slash rapper who unleashed his Corona Virus Freestyle series recently is back with this relatable record if ever there was one for this wild year. Lazarus delivers social commentary wrapped in lyrical bow ties in “Trap City” hailing from an upcoming motion picture of the same name starring Brandon T. Jackson and Clifton Powell. Twisting and turning verbally Lazarus addresses that trapped feeling a lot of us might be experiencing. With a music video coming soon and the motion picture “Trap City” to coincide Lazarus isn’t letting 2020 hold him back from delivering yet another quality take on current events in musical form from the upper echelon emcee.
