DENAUN PORTER – THE GREAT DEPRESSION A.P.

Published

on

As soon as the intro leads into the first two sonic samples off Denaun Porter’sThe Great Depression A.P.” you move on from vocal almost soul full beginnings into the forage of Mr. Porter’s masterful productions. Sound bytes bridge each work that feels collective in nature as each track melts into the next. Hype drums, synth heavy bounces, & the perfect mixture of vocals sprinkled inside provide for a fantastic listening session, shining light from a project in which rose from depression. Here’s more on “The Great Depression A.P.” via Fat Beats who’ve joined with Mr. Porter in releasing the project.

Grammy Award-winning producer, Mr. Porter, joins forces with Fat Beats to release “The Great Depression A.P.” his first commercially-released instrumental album, containing 17 rare musical gems created during the years 2006-2008. This period represents the passage of dark depression, emotional isolation, and self-imposed exile in Porter’s life; the title’s “A.P.” stands for After Proof, referring to the untimely passing of Detroit rapper Proof, a standout rapper in Detroit’s musical scene, member of D12 and childhood friend to Eminem and Porter himself.

Valid - "Mihajlo" + Release Party on May 11th at Underground @ DIME

This Saturday at Underground @ DIME join Valid for the release party behind what I can honestly say is one of my favorite full-lengths to drop in 2019. I’ve had a bit of time to soak in all that is “Mihajlo” and although I want to spend a little more time before dropping my formal review I can definitely say off early impressions that it’s quite a fantastic project.  The eleven songs that grace “Mihajlo” take you on a personal journey in getting to know Valid on a deeper level in a powerful and cohesive way.  The minimal features fit in perfectly such as Elzhi, Mahogany Jones, DJ Los, & Aaron Taylor among others providing their talents in an effective way. I’ll have my full review of the project here in the next couple weeks but besides that this Saturday, you can take in “Mihajlo” live as you celebrate alongside Valid himself plus star-studded performances via Clear Soul Forces, Supa Emcee, & A Minus. Preview the album above & come out this Saturday, May 11th at 9 PM for “The Mihajlo Album Release Party” at 1265 Griswold, Detroit, MI. $10 ENTRY.

WateRR x Ty Farris – Bulls Vs. Pistons

Published

What’s better than a good old rivalry between two NBA teams in the prime era? Imagine Jordan VS Thomas in rap form, the Bad Boys against the ’90s dynasty that was the BULLS. Well, imagine no longer as the tale of two cities tells itself via two lyrical monsters going back and forth over ten banging records. Make that twelve if you’re copping the physicals – a purchase well spent if you ask me. Yes, Detroit’s own top-notch lyricist TY FARRIS represents the home team, our very own Detroit Pistons as he goes head to head with Chicago emcee WATERR representing the Chicago Bulls. Preview the fire below & take in an old fashioned rivalry with a modern twist for we may not be seeing these two teams in the playoffs with the current state of the NBA but we surely can enjoy these two emcees in champions form on “Bulls VS Pistons“.
