Announces Dates for 2019
Conference & Festival
Toronto (ON) – Canadian Music Week, Canada’s Largest & Longest Running New Music Festival and Conference, is pleased to return for the 37th instalment taking place May 6 -12 2019, bringing conferences, awards, film, technology and music to the city of Toronto.
The music festival will kick off CMW on May 6 going through to May 12 across more than 40 venues in downtown Toronto. The Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (123 Queen St W) will once again be host to the various industry conferences (radio, technology, music) running May 9 – May 11. The Canadian Radio Music Awards, Live Music Industry Awards, INDIES, Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards and Sync Awards will return to CMW and will be announced in the future.
Canadian Music Week takes pride in welcoming international artists and key industry players from around the world, and is thrilled to feature the first official Spotlight on South Africa in 2019. In association with CAAMA, CMW will be hosting labels, booking agents, festival organizers, promoters, talent buyers and industry specialists from the entertainment sectors, opening new trade routes for Canadians who are interested in furthering opportunities with these key international markets as part of the Spotlight on South Africa.
Dates and Programming for award shows, festival and conference will be announced over the next few months.

Now in its 37th year, Canadian Music Week (Jointly Presented by San Rafael ’71 & Amsterdam Brewery) is Canada’s leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country’s music, media and entertainment industries. Combining multifaceted information-intensive conferences; a trade exposition; awards shows and the nation’s largest new music festival which spans 7 nights of performances (May 6 – 12), over 600 showcasing bands at more than 40 live music venues in downtown Toronto. All conference functions take place at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, 123 Queen Street W. Toronto (May 9 – 11).

Viola celebrates Heartsgiving turkey giveaway event with Al Harrington, Kash Doll, Icewear Vezzo and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan

November 24 premium cannabis brand Viola, founded by NBA veteran Al Harrington hosted a Heartsgiving turkey giveaway event in partnership with The Detroit Rappers Organization owned by Icewear Vezzo of Motown Records.

Waves of Detroit locals flooded the historic Hart Plaza, where the quartet of hosts and 313 volunteers banded together to connect with the city’s attendees, while small bites and hot chocolate were served at Spirit Plaza across the street.

The turkey giveaway event precludes Viola’s first official flagship store coming to the city of Detroit, which officially opens today. The grand opening marks the beginning of Viola establishing a national retail footprint with two more retail locations in California set to open in the second quarter of 2020. A 40,000 sq. ft processing and distribution center inside the Viola Provision Center is set to debut the first quarter of 2020.

Power 105.1’s Breakfast club host, ‘Angela Yee’ tours her podcast ‘Lip Service’, and brought the experience live, here in Detroit, this past weekend at the Garden Theater, located in midtown Detroit. From having A-list celebrities debut on the show, Yee gets to tour with her co hosts to connect with their fan base, radio show lovers, fellow media influencers, and sex enthusiasts. The live podcast/talk show starred co-hosts GiGi Maguire, Lore’l, and Stephanie Santiago, with special guests Kirby Gwen of WJLB, A’Real, and Chris Carsyn. The show also included Comic J. Will of The Weed Bar, podcast, and recording artists Sada Baby, and Motown signed, Icewear Vezzo.

 

Dressed down in their Detroit Vs. Everybody branded hoodies, Yee and her crew share laughs, Dusse’, girl talk, business advice, and candid relationship and sexual experiences. Special guests Sada Baby and Icewear Vezzo gifts Yee and her crew with a bottle of Champagne, and other personable items. Vezzo and Sada both share their personal opinions on how a healthy relationship should go, on top of humorous sexual preferences, in between Sada’s puffs of a backwood. Angela Yee’s Lip Service gave Detroit a live experience of our hip hop culture, and sexual appreciation all in one setting. With the Detroit’s favorite acts tastemakers, and Yee’s close knit relationship with the city, Lip Service was a huge success. Podcast and We Found Hip-hop is bringing out a set of performances that will deliver an
all-woman hip-hop show you want to feel. We Found Hip-hop is the organization that is
grounded in offering the five elements of hip-hop for women using social justice and
equity as the platform to stand on.

Boog Brown, Frankie P, and Ideeyah headline the “I’m the Rapper, She’s the DJ”
showcase Saturday October 26, 2019 at 8pm at the Andy Arts. This event is part of the
inaugural Detroit is Different Festival which will highlight Detroit culture.

The performance will be anchored by Piper Carter who will be performing as DJ Peace
Pipe to keep the vibes flowing and a party going. Expect to hear it all from Rapsody to
Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, and Jean Grae. Giving the audience a call to action to
experience an all-woman hip-hop show built in strength and creativity is an experience
that many never have witnessed.

Boog Brown and Frankie P are emcees that are wielding every mic they touch. The call
and response, bounce, and style of Boog Brown’s show is rich. Her soulful touch on hip-
hop captures the back-packer appeal with the intellect of a modern flow. Frankie P is an
electronic, soul, and experimental sound with beats that need to be heard. Her show is
an experience you don’t want to miss. I’m the Rapper, She’s the DJ will be headlined by
Ideeyah which is epic. There is no way to capture her music, flair, and appeal … but
witnessing the show is essential for all hip-hop fans.
