BritneyHouston – Wide Awake ft Isiach & casualkimono

Published

on

BritneyHouston marks their return to where it all started with a collaboration with up and coming Detroit rapper Isiach. After playing in LA bands De Lux (Innovative Leisure), The Herms (Narnack) and The Most Best, producer BritneyHouston returned to their roots of combing through singles sections and sampling with mentor and collaborator casualkimono (Tove Lo, SiDizen King).

“Some of the other members of the bands I was in at the time were exploring side projects that appealed to my 90s Hip Hop and Techno youth. I even made my sister, a yoga teacher, record her first rap for a Major Lazer flip we released called ‘Yoga Butt.’ Kimono and I got heavy into the beat scene and we started doing weekly cyphers in Hollywood at a studio he taught at with some of the Team Supreme and Low End Theory producers. ‘Wide Awake’ is a product of the curation and collaboration from those weekly sessions. When I moved back to Detroit two years ago, I wanted to be to find and provide the same inspiration and community I found in LA. When I was cutting my teeth in Detroit, I was moshing at Warped Tour artists’ shows but these days the kids are going wild for the raw hip hop and trap much in the same way. With Isiach, I immediately found that same passion and energy that drew me to music all those years ago. His self-awareness and ability to touch lyrically on some of the same obstacles and shared demons captures the haunting essence we were going for on this track.”
