NEW UNCLE ILL single RELAX YOSELF
written by: Casey Faye
A radical departure from his earlier nightclub earworm bangers, Uncle Ill’s new single “Relax Yoself” is all about savoring the slower moments while still getting your groove on.
The track’s soothing sounds produced by Kyronic feel inspired by the infamous LowFi Hip Hop Beats YouTube channel; a worthy follow up and spiritual love letter to the Lil Rob classic “Sumer Nights.”
With lyrics like ‘cracked a smile for the first time in a long while … Jermaine Harbin got his groove back, please excuse me’ the tune seems to reflect a newfound shift in the artist’s mental state as well that I’m chalking up to their recent relocation to the Sunshine State.
Post-Pandemic America is in the midst of a radical cultural metamorphosis; we’re collectively rejecting ideas like tying our entire self-worth to our financial productivity in favor of nurturing creative passion projects that don’t directly translate to fiduciary solvency.
In layman’s terms: enough people no longer give a fuck about slaving away at bullshit jobs that barely make ends meet in favor of nursing a cup of tea and finally finishing our novels regardless of weather or not they’ll ever sell a single copy that the newspapers started calling this phenomena ‘The Great Resignation.’
Rise and Grind is Out; Rise and Grateful is In.
Aggressive, Selfish Bars are Out; Meaningful, Clever Lyrics are In.
Raucous, Disturbing Shenanigans are Out; Vibing in The Moment with The People Who Make Life Worth Living is In.
Uncle Ill’s latest material demonstrates that despite a 20 year career in the rap game, he unimpededly understands his fans’ need to make time for themselves in a turbulent era of history, and he will continue to be a relevant, engaging artist with a finger firmly planted on the pulse of our collective consciousness.
