“Melanin” The movie Written and directed by Darren Brown
After seeing the movie artwork quite a bit, I have to admit I had no idea what to expect. Nor had I watched the trailer before I got a chance to watch the movie.
So i'm going in a blank slate, well kind of, I remember seeing the artwork once and asking myself "wonder if this is like neo taking the pill in the matrix".
Although I don't think Melanin's lead character Mike had any idea his actions were going to take the turn they did which involved a white man experiencing life in a black man's body, the rate of speed that this movie bounces between comedic scenes and "wait this here is serious" ads a journey of emotions that I rarely find in independent films.
From my perspective, and by no means do I claim to be a film critic, but someone who can thoroughly enjoy a well put together story or film. This movie delivered. What I enjoyed most overall is the ending. I love a film that entertains yet sparks thought. If the trailer peeks your interest, this flick is definitely worth the watch
