This is where I display my favorite findings via direct submissions to the site, random discoveries online, or artists I might have caught opening up in recent shows I've attended. In each edition I shine light on five different artists that brought something intriguing to the table & in which I felt was worthy to share with our readers! The first spot here in DITC #4 is via Sol'Le with her record "Scotty".Sol'Le is new to the scene but the Detroit rapper/singer caught my attention with this particular submission. The simple video follows her displaying her musical abilities traversing through one's home in a subtle attention grabbing manner. She's at work on upcoming music & set to perform in Europe soon after releasing. Here is the video for her single "Scotty".
Next up, my second crate delivery comes from J. Smith. I ran into him at the Swifty/Obie/Lazarus show the other week & researched up some of his music that night when I got home. Doing so brought me to his latest "The J. Smith EP", an extended play of seventeen musical renderings that caught my hip hop addicted ears. The project has some standout features via Supa Emcee, Bizarre, & KXNG CROOKED. J. Smith flexes lyrical abilities with a dash of sing-song-raps that fit well into the project & has been a project that been in rotation since my discovery. Take a listen:
It's the middle of these crates but the digging isn't stopping. This next one came from word of mouth. My good friend Anthony hit me up when he came across a friend of MCXI out on his grind. We connected dots & his team sent over some samples. His most recent effort comes across his six track ep "No Pawns". The audio quality is crispy which I can't emphasize enough but he has knack for finding beats that mash well with his abilities. It's a short and punctual listen that left me with an memorable impression. I even "dig" the artwork being a graphic junkie low-key. A pleasant referral that definitely placed MCXI on my radar, I can definitely see this having a wide appeal.
Installment four & here we are at this editions fourth selection. Gifted lyricist Crimson Alchemist has been on my radar for a minute now & with rumblings of new music on route I felt it's the perfect time to introduce ya'll. The Mark Cooper produced "Trust The Process" delivers that lyrical hip hop packed with substance showcasing first hand the skills behind the mic Crimson Alchemist possesses. Indeed I will be bring more coverage forth on this up & coming talent out of the three one three. Enjoy!
