Sometimes recognizing “Starr” quality can be a daunting task, however with Alexis Allon you’ll start feeling the sky shine quite instantly as you press play on her brand new EP “Closer“. The Titan Records artist brandishes a powerful voice that carries its weight across a short but extremely fulfilling four record dosage that paints a vivid picture of Alexis’s capabilities.

Kicking off with one of my favorite records in the last few months is the single “Starr”  which has an infectious chorus that easily traps itself inside the space between your ears. Not only does the singing pull you in but Alexis Allon isn’t to be taken lightly on the microphone either. She squeezes in a fair amount of effective bars across “Closer“.

Keep Em” is a great example of those bars – in a more mellow record packed with jazzy vibes. “One thing that should be blatant is I’m here to make a statement‘… well statement made Alexis! The remainder of the EP carries forth the first half’s momentum. “Devotion” & the title track “Closer” are two short but sweet offerings that expand on the strengths of those before.

In closing “Closer” is a demonstrative effort that showcases Alexis Allon as a multi-talented artist who stands just as strong on her own as she does lending her vocal abilities amongst features such as her previous collaborations with Detroit legendary emcee Supa Emcee. The only thing you can ask for after finishing the EP is for more music, & without a doubt, “Closer” will stay in my rotation until that day comes.

A Return From Hiatus, Detroit Emcee Miz Korona Delivers "The Virus" EP

It has been said that inspiration can be found in the strangest of places sometimes and for one Detroit emcee that proves no truer than now. COVID-19 aka Coronavirus, has effected billions on a massive scale as humanity faces one of its most daunting tests to date. At first weary of the situation, Miz Korona was hesitant, however the encouragement of her peers has driven a return for the aptly named emcee.

A six song burst of new music titled “The Virus” has the legendary bar slinger back at it like she never left, as she takes us on a journey just shy of sixteen minutes that never peels back. By the end of the her return she is making damn sure we “Respect The Name“, the standout track amongst fierce company before she has us questioning if “45” is going to let us stay alive.

For a spur of the moment comeback, “The Virus” proves Miz Korona can disappear for a few years and still come back with a batch of pure quality like it was nothing. Thankfully, her peers have pushed for the timely return as we all experience this pandemic together and the new EP is a thoroughly enjoyable record perfect for your quarantine playlist.

On top of an outstanding showing from Miz Korona, the production & features here pack a powerful roster including Chanes, Mark Cooper, Marv WonDJ Static, King Gordy, LaShaun Phoenix, Maestro and Neco Redd.

"DON'T STAND TOO CLOSE VOL. 1" Junii

Year of Junii. . .
ITS one of those things that you know is coming. Not to be psychic .. But when you hear an artist like Junii (Shaina Ferrell) and you hear
her undeniable creativity, innovativeness and originality. You know you are witnessing something more than special. Its a gift. And Junii is
truly gifted. Starting as a duo in the Hip Hop Soul group called Better In Black, Junii’s drive and talent was the backbone along with her
brother that made them stand out. Their sound, was Junii’s creation. She was the creative mastermind behind the productions as well as
delivering master class rapping and impressive singing chops to boot. She has enjoyed the rise as an independent artist, which saw
Better In Black transition from Internet to actual performances and moving beyond Sound Cloud releases. They officially released the EPs
The Garden (2018) and DELETE_EVERYTHING (2019).. The latter was recognized by Industry trade magazine, Music Connection Magazine
Review Section with an 8.0 rating and later Bettr In Black was named as “Ones To Watch in 2020” by the magazine. Eventually her brother
Natrol Black would step down from Better In Black in late 2019. But Junii took the time to realign herself with ne collaborators and bounced
back with “THE UMA THURMAN EP” with Production unit STR8 BANGAZ out of NYC. The Result is Pure Hip Hop Euphoria with cuts like
“Uma” and “Hot Days” showing Junii ripping the verse in Full emcee mode. Its clearly obvious YES, she can work wonders with others and
not just on her own productions. The UMA THURMAN EP, has generated a solid buzz around her.  And recently she was chosen by Rapper
Reason of TDE Records (Kendrick Lamar, SZA, SiR) to appear on the remix of his hit “Flick It Up” thru the online contest #FlickItUp Challenge
which found her beating out thousands of up & comers to score the once in a lifetime opportunity. It is a Dream come true to do something with
the House that Kendrick built TDE .. And not one to slow down she kept the momentum byTaking things in another direction.. Junii gets
vocal on “All Real” an alternative R&B and organic Soul workout. Reminiscent of Mary J, Jill Scott vocally, with a dose of Floetry
and The Internet to set the vibe and mood..in addition to “OUTOFHERE” & “LONG DRIVE” , she is on a tear release consecutive singles
all leading up the release of a full dual debut solo EPs in the Spring . As for Better In Black, Junii is not letting the creation fall by the wayside.
She linked up with fellow Detroit emcee Nappi Devi, who if we didn’t know better, is Junii in male form. They more than compliment each other
as rappers, but even a vocalists and writers. Making for the return of Better In Black to be an all out assault for the listener…2020 will go down
as The year of  Junii. Dropping two EPs plus the Better In Black Resurrection EP, She currently has the singles “outofhere” and “Long Drive”
released independently from the “If Tomorrow Never comes” in April EP.. And “ALL REAL” and the NEW SINGLE “LET ME KNOW” a
more Neo Soul driven groove .. AND NOW THE FULL EP “Don’t Stand Too Close Vol. 1#  .IS HERE!! “DON’T STAND TOO CLOSE VOL. 1”
by JUNII… is 8 original tracks Including ” All Real” & “Let Me Know”.. with cuts produced by Wyldfyer (Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock,

DetroitRap.com Review - Crimson Alchemist - "4H" EP

Released on Valentine’s day back in February ‘4H” is work reflective of the cover it bares above. Crimson Alchemist, heart in hand, putting it all out there, in the name of love. A four act “4H (For Her)” plus a double bonus of tracks after. Crimson Alchemist is here to speak, explanations with verbiage, and she knocks it out the park in terms of its delivery.

Fin” leads with Crimson Alchemist awaking from warning packed dream, gracing an exhilarating production from Mark Cooper as she asks “if this is the end, if this is the last time“. The sing-song hook ties a descriptive yet personal dive into analytical storytelling and top-notch verbiage. A Jay-Z reference to “Song Cry” felt right and the song is a driving introduction as it sets the stage for “4H”.

With “Chauffeur” we travel through a more jazzy lo-fi story of cruising around as a love connection blooms. Reminiscing of time spent and questioning where things are headed are painted with the vivid descriptive bars of Crimson Alchemist. The chorus is also aided by Lion Taylor bridging it all together with what was my favorite chorus on the album. Finally we hear rain falling we are presented with some introspective conversation that builds suspense as we move forward.

A challenge of short projects is often as lack of diversity in sounds, with “4 You” the Blizzard produced records continues to prove thats not the case here. By this point we’ve had three very different sounding records, yet the theme here is consistent and I find myself wrapped inside the story being told to us. “4 You” gave me some flashback vibes of an 80’s love song, but Crimson Alchemist keeps it raw and authentic, not afraid to let us inside the battles inside her head space.

There’s no such thing as a painless lesson, they just don’t exist…” we are are met with this quote among another fitting transition between Act III & IV of the main segment of “4H‘. “Flourish” is that fourth act and my favorite record off the EP. “I put a piece of my soul into all of my work like a Horcrux” is a fitting Harry Potter reference that I feel shows throughout “4H” but “Flourish” is a deeply honest self reflection that had me listening over and over. Closing out in spoken word, the closing of the main segment of “4H” feels complete, a terrific exercise of one’s honesty touching on the subject of love, not only the love of another but the love of one self. The love one deserves.

Before we head out, we are also treated with two bangers from Crimson Alchemist both produced from one of Detroit’s favorite music creators Blizzard and both are further more solid examples of Crimson’s abilities. “Yes Yes” brings a dope verse from A-Minus and “People Mover” closes us out with another strong showing of lyricism. All in all “4H” carries it’s energy from start to finish, gives us a strong visual with descriptive storytelling, and is an excellent showing from the up & coming artist.
