Detroit Red grew up on the Westside of Detroit during the time that rap music was making a statement. His first taste of music was in the form of Eric B. and Rakim's Paid In Full album. Growing up with 3 brothers, music was played based on a consensus, so D.R. memorized the album, reciting the lyrics at every opportunity. Learning the art of story telling through vivid imagery maintained Red's imagination. As rap music gained popularity, so did his skills. Detroit Red pressed his interest in music through playing the saxophone and making songs. With the help of his oldest brother, D.J. 3rd Rail (Rest in peace), Detroit Red began making tapes that got the attention and acceptance of his peers. Bound and determined to deliver his own version of Detroit music, D.R. focused on his solo album. In '93, tragedy struck and took the life of his brother and mentor, D.J. 3rd Rail. With a lack of guidance, Detroit Red continued his brother's legacy by dee-jaying and making mixtapes, only to find a new passion for rapping. D.R. created a name for his production company, 4JL Productions, through tracks for local artists under the moniker DFB. With tracks and recording capabilities at his disposal, the independent record label 3rd Rail Records was born in '97. With several cameo appearances, a production company and music business savvy under his belt, Detroit Red has spent almost 10 years crafting an album that truly has him focused. With the continuing change in how music is being heard and appreciated, the road to success is becoming more and more narrow. With "Tunnel Vision" scheduled to be released in '08, Detroit Red is seeing the light at the end of a journey long travelled. But this is only the beginning...
